What Steps Do I Need to Take?

Motivation and passion for dentistry are very important for aspiring dentists, as you must dedicate eight years at a minimum to first becoming educated and learning the craft of dentistry. In order to become a general dentist you have to obtain a four year undergrad degree in a related field. Then, you have to earn a four year dental school degree from an accredited dental school. After completing that you may choose to complete a residency if you want to specialize. Dr. Carmen D. Davis recommends aspiring dentists to shadow a general dentist to see their day-to-day work life and decide if it’s something you’d like to dedicate eight years of education to. Upon completing your education you can either practice corporate dentistry or you may open up a practice of your own.
