A medical doctor is one of the highest authorities in medicine. They do a number of tasks all surrounded by diagnosing and treating their patients. For example, a doctor may asses relevant history, order tests, diagnose illnesses and ultimately try and treat their patient. Because doctors perform such a wide variety of tasks they are required to earn a multiple degrees and pass multiple exams before becoming a board certified, licensed medical doctor.
What Steps Do I Take to Start a Career as a Doctor?
Beginning a career as a medical doctor is a long journey, however, determination can drive you to success. First, begin your education at a university with a science related major. Then, college juniors should register to take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). Upon passing, you can begin applying for further education at an accredited medical school. Education in medical school typically lasts four years where students learn more about the sciences and various areas of medicine. In the final year of medical school students begin narrowing down the options for specialty and match with a residency. Following graduation from medical school, students begin working in their residency which takes years, depending on their specialty. Lastly, it’s all about becoming board certified and earning your state license to practice. While the journey to a career as a medical doctor is difficult, it can be done, with passion and determination.
