What Does a Marketing Director Do?

In essence, the marketing director oversees marketing projects from conception, to execution, to feedback and analysis. When people think of marketing, most think of an ad or commercial. However, there’s much more to marketing than meets the eye. Within the field of marketing there are a variety of career paths. For example, you can be a designer, a copywriter, a content developer, etc. Also, you can be on the creative side, the strategy side, or even on operations. Because there’s so many options within marketing, it’s important to determine which aspect of the field you enjoy. Once you determine what you like or dislike it’s easier for you to narrow down on what career you want to pursue within the marketing department.

How Can I Become a Marketing Director?

Most companies will require a bachelor’s degree for an entry-level position. As you grow in the field and get into management, they’ll start to request an MBA or a master’s degree. There’s no direct path to success, you can major in anything in your undergrad. The key is being able to apply what you did in undergrad to the field of marketing.
