What Does a Human Resources Manager Do?

A human resources (HR) manager plans, coordinates and oversees all administrative tasks of the HR department. In essence, includes managing workflows, supervising specialists and employees, consulting with managers on HR related predicaments and handling serious disputes. HR managers maintain productive workflows by ensuring that staff have the opportunity and capabilities to work as efficiently as possible. Additionally, they supervise the work of employees in the HR department, ensuring projects completion in a timely manner. If a fellow department head has a question related to HR, they are able to consult with the HR manager for counseling and guidance. Lastly, if serious disputes arise, such as, a sexual harassment or discrimination claim, HR is in charge of investigating the situation and taking disciplinary actions if needed.

How Can I Begin My Career as a Human Resources Manager?

Most hiring managers prefer candidates that at least hold a bachelor’s degree in a related field such as, business administration with an emphasis in human resources. However, it is important to note, that candidates can enter this position by starting entry-level and climbing the corporate ladder. Additionally, hiring managers value experience in the field of human resources. There are also a few certifications available that can set you apart from other potential job candidates.
