An human resources (HR) generalist carries out a variety of tasks all related to HR, as the name implies. In general, an HR generalist handles recruiting, compensation, benefits, and employee relations. For example, in recruiting HR generalists handle all onboarding tasks for new employees. This typically starts with a screening interview. If the candidate is hired, they handle the employee offer, pay negotiation, background checks, and managing the onboarding process.
